2019 Mazda CX-5

This diesel engine will be under the hood of the Mazda CX-5 compact SUV. It will be the alternative to the vehicle's standard gas engine. Mazda has talked about bringing a diesel engine to the United States for nearly a decade but made the announcement official at the 2019 New York International Auto Show.

This latest engine is emissions-compliant, earning an EPA-estimated 30 miles per gallon (mpg) on the highway. This means the vehicle's driving range is 400 to 450 miles, which makes the CX-5 ideal for road trips.

This latest diesel engine option uses Skyactiv-D technology. The engine itself is a 2.2 liter four cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which pairs up with all-wheel drive. It is also mated to a six-speed automatic engine that is smooth, responsive, and fun to drive. The powertrain achieves as much as 168 horsepower and 290-pound-feet of torque, providing the power that daily drivers will be sure to enjoy.
