Compare the New Mazda CX-90 to Its Competitors in Jackson Heights, NY

Looking for an SUV that's spacious enough for your family yet fun to drive? The new Mazda CX-90 has sportier handling than most three-row SUVs. Its refined interior is packed with handy tech features. Other seven-seat SUVs like the new Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, and Volkswagen Atlas are also roomy, but they don't offer the fully satisfying driving experience you'll get with the CX-90. Koeppel Mazda put forth the following comparisons for further explanation.

Engines and Acceleration

You'll want an SUV with plenty of oomph for easier passing on the highway. The new Mazda CX-90 comes standard with a turbocharged 280-horsepower six-cylinder engine that makes 332 pound-feet of torque. For even zestier acceleration, a turbocharged 340-horsepower six-cylinder motor is available that produces 369 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the CX-90 can bolt from 0 to 60 mph in around 6.5 seconds.

The new Honda Pilot only offers one engine. Its 285-horsepower V6 motor generates 262 pound-feet of torque.

The new Toyota Highlander's lone engine is a 265-horsepower four-cylinder unit that puts out 310 pound-feet of torque.

The new Volkswagen Atlas's only engine is a turbocharged 269-horsepower four-cylinder motor that makes 273 pound-feet of torque.

Interior Quality

The new Mazda CX-90 has a sleek, well-built interior with a low, uncluttered dash. It comes standard with synthetic leather seats, but Nappa leather upholstery is available. Other optional interior trappings include a panoramic sunroof and genuine wood trim.

The new Honda Pilot has a modern cabin with a mix of soft-touch and hard plastic materials. It comes standard with cloth upholstery, and leather seats are optional.

The new Toyota Highlander has a plain, ordinary interior with standard cloth seats. Leather upholstery is available in higher trims, but the Highlander never matches the opulence of the CX-90.

The new Volkswagen Atlas has a roomy cabin with mostly good materials, but there are too many plastic surfaces that detract from its decor.

Ride and Handling

Like most Mazda vehicles, the new CX-90 has well-weighted steering and strong braking for agile handling around turns. Its sophisticated multilink rear suspension helps it ride gently over rough, bumpy pavement.

The new Honda Pilot has a balanced ride and handling, but its automatic transmission can be a bit clunky when shifting.

The new Toyota Highlander rides comfortably, but it's not very exciting to drive.

The new Volkswagen Atlas has a silky ride, but it feels a bit clumsy when pushed quickly around corners.

Safety

The safety of you and your family is of the utmost importance. Cautious Queens drivers will appreciate that the new Mazda CX-90 received Top Safety Pick+ honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It comes with seven standard driver assistance features to help you avoid accidents, including safe-exit assist, which prevents rear passengers from opening a door into traffic approaching from behind.

The new Honda Pilot only has five standard advanced active safety features. Safe-exist assist is not included in the Pilot's standard amenities.

The new Toyota Highlander has just four standard driver-assist features, and it doesn't offer safe-exit assist.

Infotainment Technology

A good infotainment system should be a cinch to operate while you're driving. You'll enjoy long drives through rush-hour traffic more with the right infotainment system to help you stay amused. The new Mazda CX-90 has a rotary knob on the center console for seamless use while you're on the move in Jackson Heights, NY. Its sharp graphics, swift responses to inputs, and handy physical buttons further simplify its operation. The CX-90 comes standard with a 10.25-inch display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but a 12.3-inch touchscreen is available.

The new Honda Pilot's standard infotainment touchscreen is only 7 inches long. Its upgraded display is just 9 inches long.

The new Toyota Highlander's base infotainment touchscreen is just 8 inches long, although a 12.3-inch screen is optional. However, the touchscreen controls on the driver's side vanish while using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, which can be a hindrance while driving.

The new Volkswagen Atlas comes standard with a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen. However, its menu interface is complicated, and the capacitive touch controls don't always work as intended.
